Back to school is right around the corner! My online students suggested playing some trivia games, and this gave me the idea to create a trivia game on Google Slides to use not only for my students but for yours too!
Using a Back to School trivia game containing math, ELA, and other trivia questions can offer numerous benefits for teachers and students at the beginning of the school year. Here are some of the advantages:
- Trivia games are enjoyable and can captivate students' attention. The game becomes more interactive and exciting for students by incorporating different subjects like math and ELA.
- Many students may not know each other well at the beginning of the school year. The trivia game can serve as an icebreaker, allowing students to interact, collaborate, and work in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere.
- Trivia games promote active learning, where students are actively involved in thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving. This approach enhances retention and understanding of the subject matter.
- The trivia game can also be an informal assessment tool for teachers. By observing students' responses and performance, teachers can gain insights into their knowledge, strengths, and areas that might need further support.
- Trivia questions can cover important concepts from previous grade levels, providing a quick review of essential material before delving into new topics.
- Teachers can include questions of varying difficulty levels to cater to different students' abilities. This allows for differentiated learning, ensuring students are appropriately challenged and engaged.
- Engaging in a light-hearted and enjoyable activity like a trivia game can foster a positive relationship between teachers and students, creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
- Successfully answering trivia questions can boost students' confidence and motivate them to participate actively in classroom activities throughout the year.
- Alongside review questions, teachers can include a few questions introducing new topics to pique students' curiosity and create excitement about what they will learn in the coming months.
- Trivia games often involve teamwork, encouraging student collaboration and cooperation. This fosters a sense of camaraderie and support within the classroom.
- The trivia game can be designed to fit various time frames, making it a versatile activity that can be used as a quick warm-up or as part of a more extended back-to-school orientation.
How to play:
- Click Slideshow mode for the game to work.
- Students read the question and answer it.
- As students answer questions correctly, they will earn more money to have a chance to win one million dollars.
- If they get a wrong answer, it is game over.
Overall, a Back to School trivia game that covers various subjects offers an excellent way for teachers to engage their students, create a positive classroom environment, and set the stage for a successful and enjoyable academic year.
