Design a Picasso Face + Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Passage about Pablo Picasso and Cubism for 3rd to 5th Graders

Tired of the same old routine when teaching about Pablo Picasso and Cubism? Are you looking for a way to make art history fun for your students, especially during Hispanic Heritage Month? Look no further!

I recently created this incredible resource, the "Picasso and Cubism: Abstract Portrait and Nonfiction Reading Comprehension Escape Room," I know it will be an absolute game-changer in your classroom!

We all know keeping young learners engaged in history lessons can be a challenge. Textbooks can feel dry, and traditional lectures might not hold their attention long. This escape room takes the cake! It transforms a typical reading comprehension activity into a collaborative adventure with puzzles, codes, and a virtual "escape" room setting.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a Spanish Icon

September 15 to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month, and what better way to celebrate than by learning about one of the world's most famous artists, Pablo Picasso, a native of Spain! This escape room seamlessly integrates his life and artistic style, making it perfect for the month.

Benefits for Teachers: Less Prep, More Fun

As a busy teacher myself, anything that saves me time is a win. This resource is a low-prep dream! Simply download and print, and you're ready to launch your students on their artistic escape.

But the benefits don't stop there!

  • Standards-aligned: The escape room activities align with the common core standards for reading comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Perfect for Hispanic Heritage Month: Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month by exploring the work of the iconic Spanish artist Pablo Picasso.

  • Ideal for Sub Plans: Our escape room is a ready-to-go activity that can be easily implemented in your classroom, even when you're absent.

  • Introduces Students to Abstract Art: Help students understand the unique style of Cubism and its impact on the art world.

  • Encourages Creativity: The Picasso face art project allows students to express their creativity and apply the concepts they've learned.

  • Teamwork in action: Designed for group work, this escape room encourages students to communicate, share ideas, and collaborate to solve challenges.

How do you play the reading escape room?

Simply print the 16 task cards and 4 decoders and scatter them around the room or hang them on the wall. With the recording sheet, students find a pair to complete the questions. Once they unlock the final code using the decoders, they get to design their own Picasso face.
This is a fantastic resource for any elementary classroom! It goes beyond facts and dates, offering a truly immersive experience that celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month and brings art history to life. It's engaging, educational, and lets students unleash their inner artists!
