Thanksgiving Math Activities for Kindergarten to 2nd Grade using PowerPoint

Many people in the USA and Canada look forward to Thanksgiving Day. If you live in a country that does not celebrate Thanksgiving, it is an annual national holiday meant to celebrate the harvest season and the blessings of the past year.

If you are a classroom teacher, there are many ways to celebrate Thanksgiving in the classroom. You can ask your students to read, write, make crafts, or do other fun activities for Thanksgiving.

But what if you are pressed for time? What if you need fun and engaging Thanksgiving games but don't have the time for them because you are busy doing other stuff at home or in the classroom?

These Thanksgiving PowerPoint games will save you!

Thanksgiving Math Game for Kindergarten

This interactive PowerPoint game focuses on identifying and describing 3D shapes. I know some students struggle with shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size, but this PowerPoint game will make the topic easy for them!

What is the goal of this game?

Noah and Millie do not have meals prepared for Thanksgiving. They are alone and hungry. Your students' goal is to ready their Thanksgiving meals using their knowledge of 2D and 3D shapes.

What are the activities included?

  • Describing objects in the environment using names of shapes

  • Describing the relative position of objects using behind, below, in front of, above, and beside

  • Identifying shapes and shapes' names

  • Sorting 2D and 3D shapes
  • Shapes word search

Aside from these activities, you will also get an editable PowerPoint presentation where you can add your questions depending on your students' needs.

The corresponding buttons are already linked in the editable file, so you must type your questions and answers and present the PowerPoint to your students.

Thanksgiving Math Game for 1st Grade

Your students will absolutely love this PowerPoint game! This interactive scavenger hunt game is about finding Tyson, the missing turkey, who had been missing for over 24 hours. Since you're a detective in this game, how will you find Tyson? By using your place value skills.

There are four locations included in the game: the circus, the pizzeria, the sushi bar, and the donut shop. Once you click the detective, it will automatically move to the next location. No one knows where the detective will go, but once he arrives at his destination, you click on the location and answer the question.

How to play:

  1. This game has four parts, and each has 15 questions. Set up four or five teams in the classroom.
  2. Each team answers the question correctly. If the answer is wrong, the other team can steal it.
  3. This game does not contain a scoreboard, so you must manually record the scores.

What are the activities included?

  • identifying tens and ones
  • comparing two two-digit numbers
  • addition within 100

  • subtracting multiples of 10 in the range of 10-90

Thanksgiving Math Game for 2nd Grade

Here is another fun PowerPoint game, this time for your 2nd graders. Your students will be dressing up a turkey! But wait, there's a catch! Only the game winners have a chance to dress up Mr. Turkey! How? By using their place value skills!

What are the activities included?

  • identifying hundreds, tens, and ones
  • skip counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s
  • reading and writing numbers up to 1000 using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form
  • comparing two three-digit numbers

How to play:

  1. Set up four teams.
  2. Pick a number from 1-20.
  3. Answer the question correctly. A scoreboard is included so that you can add their scores quickly.

It also contains an editable PowerPoint file, BUT it does not include dressing up the turkey. I do not have a moveable license for the clip art I used; therefore, I did not include the activity in the editable file.

All of the games include a quick guide found in the ZIP folder. I recommend opening and reading the guide first before proceeding to the game. The PowerPoint files will automatically open in slideshow mode, so I highly encourage you to open the guide. This way, you will know what activities are inside the game before presenting it to your students.

Check it out here.

Aside from the editable file, you will also receive TWO PowerPoint presentations. One is to dress up Mr. Turkey; the other is to dress up Mrs. Turkey. The questions are the SAME, though, so keep that in mind.
