With the 2024 election approaching, I wanted to create a relevant and exciting way for elementary students to learn about the candidates and the election process. I know that teaching current events—especially topics like elections—can be tough. Some students find nonfiction boring, while others may struggle to read at the same level as their peers. That’s why I created the Presidential Election 2024: Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Differentiated Reading Escape Room.
Here's the problem...
Getting students interested in current events and politics is hard, especially when they’re 9 or 10. Add the challenge of different reading levels in your class, and covering a big topic like the presidential election can feel overwhelming. We all want our students to understand what's happening in the world around them, but it’s tough to find material that’s engaging and accessible for everyone.
How this resource solves that:
This Kamala Harris and Donald Trump Escape Room is designed to make learning about the election not just doable but fun. The resource includes two differentiated reading passages—one for students reading at a higher level and one for those needing more support—so every student can participate. The reading passages focus on Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, giving students a solid understanding of the life of these two major political figures in a way they can grasp.
But it doesn’t stop at reading! The escape room format turns the information into a series of puzzles and challenges that your students will love. They’ll solve clues based on the reading passages, work in teams, and apply critical thinking and comprehension skills to "escape" from each stage. It’s a hands-on activity that feels more like a game, and your students will be fully engaged the entire time.
I’ve seen firsthand how tough it can be to teach nonfiction, especially with topics like elections. I wanted to create something that wasn’t just informative but also interactive and differentiated to meet the needs of all learners. With the 2024 election on the horizon, it felt like the perfect time to offer a product that brings these real-world concepts into the classroom in a meaningful way.
What’s in it for you:
- Engagement: No more blank stares or bored expressions when discussing current events. This escape room gets kids excited about learning.
- Differentiation: Two versions of the reading passages mean that all students can participate and feel successful regardless of reading ability.
- Relevant learning: As the 2024 election approaches, this is a timely way to introduce students to the candidates and the electoral process in a student-friendly format.
If you’re looking for an engaging, hands-on way to teach your students about the upcoming election, try this escape room. It’s a great way to incorporate reading comprehension, teamwork, and critical thinking while keeping things exciting and relevant.
Feel free to leave feedback or ask questions—I'd love to hear how this resource works in your classroom!
